GENERAL
Thank you for your interest in contributing to the Modern HTX Forum blog, the blog for all things modern in and around Houston, TX. Some of the key characteristics of our blog are:
- Technical
- Aesthetics
- “Shop” Talk
- Detailed
The primary audience for this blog includes individuals in the real estate, development and allied fields, such as architects, planners, and advocates for smart growth.
While we can’t cover every issue, we do prioritize a few key categories. This blog will cover a variety of topics of interest to our audience, with primary focus given to several key areas:
- Community Events
- Historic Preservation
- Real Estate Industry News
Additional categories include:
- Architecture
- Economics
- Education
- Landscapes
- Legal
- Modernism
- Planning
- Rural
Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
- Case studies—an example of a project with significant lessons learned
- Innovative preservation practices
- New areas of preservation work—structured to encourage discussion
- Significant updates on policy and advocacy priorities
In addition to the longer posts we will accept general announcements on related programs, grants, conferences to be included in occasional event round ups.
SPECIFIC
Word Count:
- Between 800-1000 words MAX
- Please provide a sentence or two about your background to be used in author acknowledgement.
Paragraphs:
- 5 sentences or less
- Break up longer text with subheadings
Photos and Videos:
- At least 620 pixels’ wide
- Photos and videos taken by skilled photographer preferred
- All photos and videos must be properly credited, with short captions, and pre-approved for use by photographer
- Try to include at least one quality photo for every 2-3 paragraphs
HOW TO SUBMIT
- Please send us your story pitch prior to submitting the full text. That way editorial staff can provide guidance to ensure that the subject matter is appropriate for the Modern HTX blog. Email ideas to mandy@modern-charm.com
- Please do not format the blog post yourself
- Include links in parentheses next to the text you would like to hyperlink
- The editorial staff reserves the right to make adjustments to text for length, grammar, and clarity. The author will have the opportunity to approve these edits but must respond within 24-48 hours of receiving
- Send final draft to editorial staff one week before final deadline, unless otherwise noted. Send the text (Microsoft Word preferred) of the post and photos as separate attachments in an email to mandy@modern-charm.com
