The Pantone Color Institute has just revealed its 2017 Color of the Year; Greenery! More technically known as Pantone 15-0343, Greenery is the newest addition to Pantone’s Color of the Year list, and signifies the first days of spring, connection to nature, feelings of restoration, and a renewal of spirit. Since the year 2000, the Pantone company has been selecting an annual color to serve as a snapshot and symbolic representation of our current global culture; a shade that conveys a particular emotion and attitude. Pantone’s Color of the Year is also a popular source of creative inspiration; from interior design and architecture, to fashion and food.
We saw the color most recently being prominently featured in several Spring 2017 fashion shows such as Lacoste, Emillo Pucci, and Michael Kors, to name a few.
Greenery is also a favorable choice for the home. Whether adding a touch of this shade on walls, with accent furniture and décor, or utilizing large windows to let in the outdoor foliage, Greenery’s addition provides the illusion of nature indoors, as well as a sense tranquility, not to mention a pop of color!
The 2017 Color of the Year is undoubtedly a tribute to nature, but more than that, it is a representation of our connection to the environment, to ourselves and to each other. The Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, Leatrice Eiseman, described it best when she said “Greenery bursts forth in 2017 to provide us with the hope we collectively yearn for amid a complex social and political landscape. Satisfying our growing desire to rejuvenate, revitalize and unite, Greenery symbolizes the reconnection we [all] seek…”, leaving no question of the underlying significance Pantone’s newest color choice embodies.
What a perfect choice of color to welcome in the new year!
